Peanut vendor nabbed for stealing P100,000
A female peanut vendor was arrested after carting away more than P100,000 in cash from an office in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo Tuesday afternoon.
Police investigators said Rose Galvan, 27, a resident of Sibunag, Guimaras could be a thief pretending to be a peanut vendor.
That afternoon, Galvan entered the office of Barotac Nuevo-Dumangas-Anilao Planters Association to sell peanuts but no one was around.
She told investigators she saw a bag placed under a chair and when she checked its contents, she found a white envelope containing cash of P100,000 and 400 euros.
Galvan said she wasn’t planning to steal the money and just wanted to keep it and return it to its owner the following day. But then she boarded a Ceres Liner bus.
After the office personnel discovered that the cash was missing, they reported the incident to the police and checkpoints were set up to check all Ceres Liner buses coming from Barotac Nuevo.
Galvan was eventually collared in Zarraga town. The police found the envelope containing the cash beneath the packs of peanuts being sold by the suspect.*
