PECO intensifies drive vs pilferage
The Panay Electric Company has recently found seven houses in Brgy. San Juan in Molo district committing unauthorized electrical tapping.
PECO Engineer Rey Estevez said the task of detecting violators among a mass of residential houses can be daunting as suspects easily smell the presence of PECO personnel by way of tip-offs from neighbors which give sufficient time to pilferers to remove their illegal connections, such as the popular “jumper.”
Estevez appealed to the public to cooperate with PECO’s serious campaign to stamp out electric thievery as law-abiding citizens have to bear the burden of paying for power they did not use.
“It’s called systems loss, which under the law means stolen electricity from providers like PECO will be passed on to legitimate consumers,” Estevez said.*PNA
