Boracay posts P11B in tourism receipts
Boracay Island generated a total of P11.16 billion in tourism receipts from January to September 2010, according to records of the Provincial Tourism Office in Aklan.
Last year, tourism receipts reached P11.94 billion. The figure is seen to be equaled if not surpassed this year with still three months left in 2010.
Based on the report on Boracay’s visitor arrivals, there was an increase in the number of visitors in the month of August.
In 2009, tourist arrivals in August reached 45,290 while in August 20l0, arrivals reached 58,202, or an increase of 28 percent.
Last month, when effects of cancellations would have been felt after the August 23 hostage-taking incident, tourist arrivals reached 46,132, compared with 2009 arrivals at 37,113 or an increase of 24 percent.
For August 2010, 28,841 foreign visitors were recorded to have come to the island, while domestic visitors numbered 27,144. Overseas Filipinos were 2,217.
For September, foreign visitors totaled 21,428 while domestics numbered 23,779 and overseas Filipinos, 925.
This year’s nine-month visitor arrivals reached 607,537. Last year, a total of 649,559 arrivals were recorded for the same period.*PIA
