Soldiers deployed in 8 Capiz towns
ROXAS CITY – Members of the 3rd Infantry Division’s Philippine Army have been deployed in eight towns of Capiz.
Lt. Col. Tyne Banias, commanding officer of the 47th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, said the towns include Tapaz, Dumalag, Jamindan, Mambusao, Sigma, Cuartero, Dumarao and Maayon.
Banias said another company was deployed to reinforce police manpower in Mambusao, Cuartero, Dumarao and Sigma towns.
The eight municipalities were noted to have the presence of communist groups.
Capiz Police Provincial Director Renato Gumban had earlier said that 77 barangays in the province were considered election watchlist areas by the Joint Security Coordinating Center.
Of the total areas, 27 are included in Category 1 or with history of election-related violence, while 50 barangays are included under Category 2 or villages with presence of communist rebel groups.
Gumban and Banias said the October 25 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls in Capiz was generally peaceful and orderly.*
