LWUA: Defensor shall name 2 MIWD directors
It will be Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. who will appoint the two new directors of the Metro Iloilo Water District, according to the Local Water Utilities Administration.
The MIWD in a news release yesterday said the LWUA relayed such information to its general manager Le Jayme Jalbuena in the wake of reports that Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has been preparing to appoint the incoming directors,
“Based on our review/evaluation and validation, Iloilo City was not able to garner more than 75 percent of the total service connections in the district’s area of coverage, and as such, the appointing authority of the expiring (directors) of MIWD shall be the provincial governor,” LWUA Administrator Daniel Landingin said.
Landingin said Section 3-B of Presidential Decree No. 198 as amended provides “that in the event that more than 75 percent of the total active service connections of a local water district are within the boundary of a city or municipality, the appointing authority shall be the mayor of the city or municipality, as the case may be, otherwise, the appointing authority shall be the governor of the province within which the district is located.”
The terms of directors Bernadette Jamerlan Castellano and Adrian Moncada, who represent the women sector and professional group, respectively, will end on Dec. 31, 2010.
Castellano was appointed to finish the term of businesswoman Maria Luisa Segovia, who resigned last February. Moncada succeeded Atty. Eduardo Aguillon who also resigned in December last year.
The two new directors will assume a six-year term starting Jan. 1, 2011.*
