173 couples in Pilar mass wedding rites
ROXAS CITY – One hundred seventy-three couples were married in the mass wedding sponsored by the municipal government of Pilar, Capiz last October 11 at the towns’ Holy Trinity Parish Church.
The mass wedding officiated by Rev. Fr. Gregorio Posadas was part of the municipal government’s responsible parenting advocacy through its Responsible Parenting Movement Team.
“The list of couples who marched for the second mass wedding rites included a 78-year-old groom with his 77-year-old bride,” Pilar Information Officer Magdalena Buyo said.
The same activity was also sponsored by the municipal government in 2009.
The wedding sponsors were led by Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco Sr., Rep. Antonio Del Rosario, Pilar Mayor Rita Lyn Patricio and her husband, and former mayor Gideon Ike Patricio.
The couples underwent the required pre-marriage counseling requirements before they were married.
A reception sponsored by the municipal government followed at the civic center highlighted by the former mayor’s serenade for the newly weds.
Provincial Population Program Officer for Pilar Henry Tingson said the Responsible Parenting Movement teams in the barangay level also helped in the process of identifying unwed couples in the community.*
