Mabilog seeks aid for water systems in relocation sites
Iloilo City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is seeking support from the Ilonggo community in the United States for the establishment of shallow well project in various relocation sites in the city.
Mabilog said most households in the city do not have easy access to water, pointing out that water pipes from the Metro Iloilo Water District has not reached most relocation sites.
He said connections are also limited because some relocation sites are far from the nearest pipeline.
Iloilo City has more than three relocation sites where displaced families are being accommodated. These are families have been affected by major projects such as the Iloilo Flood Control and those living in danger zones like creeks.
These relocation sites also includes those coming from barangays Sooc in Arevalo, San Isidro in La Paz, and Balantang in Jaro.
Mabilog said he hoped to generate support from Ilonggos abroad for the noble project.
Each shallow well project costs around $565 only, he said.
Mabilog is on official travel to the US this week. He is set to meet Ilonggos in Chicago and Maryland and lobby for support for various city projects.*PNA
