Jail officers attend information seminar
More than 50 jail managers and civil relations personnel in Western Visayas underwent a seminar on community and media relations yesterday aimed at making them more competent in promoting government information.
Chief Insp. Gilbert Peremne, training in-charge, said the seminar is a replication of the Community Relations Service activity previously conducted at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology National Headquarters.
“We seek to make our jail managers and CRS personnel aware of the need to improve their media and public relations and become more effective in their tasks,” Peremne said.
Supt. Samson Abaygar, BJMP 6 assistant regional director for operations, said jail managers and the CRS personnel are front liners in delivery of services both for its internal and external clients, hence they need to be more competent in community relations and in dealing with media who may source information from them anytime.
The training is made possible in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency and the University of St. La Salle Bacolod.
Elsa Subong of PIA Iloilo lectured on the “Role of CRS Personnel in Promoting Government Information” and Some “Ethical Considerations in Government Information Work.”
Prof. Allen del Carmen of the USLS spoke on “Media and Community Relations and Communication Techniques” and gave a short workshop.*PIA6
