Electrocuted boy’s family to get compensation
ROXAS CITY – Capiz Electric Cooperative, Inc. will give compensation to the family of a 12-year-old boy who died from electrocution last week in Barangay Dinginan, this city.
Engr. Edgar Diaz, general manager of Capelco, told The News Today that all lines are insured, thus, victims of accidental electrocution will be compensated.
Diaz added that the incident involving Welmer Arcega of Balijuagan was the fault of the cooperative because their lines were down due to strong winds prior to the victim’s electrocution.
However, he clarified that persons who were electrocuted after engaging in illegal connections, tapping the cable signal or installing antennas are not Capelco’s responsibility.
He added that if the insurance money is not enough, Capelco will give an additional amount.
Arcega, a pupil of Dinginan Elementary School, was electrocuted last November 18.
Merdieta Arcega, his aunt, said that he was walking with his relatives when the incident happened. She added that Arcega washed his feet, then stumbled, causing him to accidentally touch Capelco’s power line.
The others were helpless in rescuing him for fear that they will also be hurt.
He was brought to the Saint Anthony College Hospital where he was declared dead.
