Anti-drug unit in Brgy. Malipayon up next
Following the establishment of Task Force Bakhaw in one of the Iloilo City’s drug haven in Mandurriao district, the Police Regional Office 6 will soon put up a similar police unit in Brgy. Malipayon, City Proper.
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, police regional director, said that though Brgy. Malipayon is also under the control of Task Force Bakhaw, another team will be formed to solely run after drug dealers in the area.
Querol said the PRO6 will maximize its personnel for anti-illegal drug activities in the area but he acknowledge the difficulties of penetrating Brgy. Malipayon because of its uncooperative residents.
“Illegal drugs is everybody’s concern. We have to try our best to stop it or least minimize it,” he said.
Querol said the need to assign another police team in Brgy. Malipayon came in the wake of reports that some drug pushers in Brgy. Bakhaw have relocated to Brgy. Malipayon.
Last Saturday, around 50 policemen were deployed to Brgy. Bakhaw.
Querol and Paul Ledesma, regional director of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 6, also conducted a symposium in the village regarding the implementation of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team.
However, almost half of the residents were unresponsive.
Ledesma, for his part, scored former Bakhaw village chief Ruby Galano for being uncooperative in their anti-illegal drug operations in the area.
In PDEA 6’s three years of operations in Brgy. Bakhaw, Galano never assisted them in their campaign to stop proliferation of illegal drugs in her village.*JPR
