ICPO steps up crime watch for holidays
The Iloilo City Police Office is stepping up its anti-crime operations for the approaching holidays in December and the Dinagyang festival in January.
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol, police regional director, said he has discussed crime prevention during the holidays with the police chiefs of the ICPO and the Iloilo City Public Safety Company.
Querol said he instructed the ICPO to increase the deployment of mobile patrol in strategic areas, conduct non-stop checkpoint and foot patrol operations, and assign policemen in public places like churches, beaches, malls, and tourist destinations.
“We should be ready because criminals will strike during the Yuletide season,” Querol said.
Precinct commanders have also been directed to determine the crime-prone areas in their respective jurisdictions and deploy personnel to these areas.
Illegal Drugs
Meanwhile, Querol said the Police Regional Office 6 is also coordinating with other units and concerned government agencies in monitoring the entry of illegal drugs during the holidays.
“We expect a big volume of drugs coming in, so we have to intensify our campaign and our intelligence monitoring,” he said.
More police personnel will be deployed in seaports such as Dumangas and Estancia and even in Boracay Island to monitor the entry of illegal drugs.*JPR
