Celino issues invitation for Sinadya sa Halaran
Roxas City Mayor Angel Alan Celino is inviting people from different parts of the country to visit his city as well as Capiz for the Sinadya sa Halaran Festival on Dec. 3 and 8, 2010.
“More than being an expression of gratitude for the blessings bestowed upon us the past years, Sinadya sa Halaran affords the locals and guests alike not only to take a glimpse of Capiz’ rich culture and traditions but also to take time out from their busy schedules as they enjoy the various activities under the spirit of fun, joy, camaraderie and fellowship,” Celino said.
He added that the festivity promises to be memorable as this year’s Fiesta Queen is the daughter of the late Capiz first district Rep. Gerardo “Dinggoy” Roxas Jr., to whom Sinadya owes much of its existence.
To recall, it was “Dinggoy,” with the full support of his mother, Judy Araneta-Roxas, who initiated Sinadya in 1988 as the merrymaking aspect of the Roxas City fiesta. Since then, Sinadya has become the city’s major mardi gras and tourist come-on.
The Sinadya sa Halaran 2010 celebration also marks the 303rd anniversary of the Parish of Immaculate Conceptiopn, which was established in 1707. As a religious affair, the celebration honors the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, Patroness of Roxas City, through traditional rituals such as the Prosesyon sang Birhen, Prosesyon sa Suba and the Misa sa Plasa.
The City Council has passed a resolution declaring Dec. 3-8 as “Sinadya sa Halaran Week” to enable all of us to actively participate in the various activities and thus, ensure a successful, productive and meaningful fiesta.
