1 killed, scores injured in Antique bus mishap
A 58-year-old man was killed while at least 19 others were injured when the passenger bus they were boarding plunged into a river Sunday in Patnongon, Antique.
A police report said the Ceres bus overshot a curve, fell into a 20-foot cliff and into the river.
The bus was negotiating the highway in Patnongon on its way to Iloilo City when the accident occurred.
The lone fatality was identified as Rodrigo Sayton, of San Joaquin, Iloilo. He died while being treated at the Angel Salazar Memorial Hospital in San Jose town.
Senior Insp. Jonathan del Rosario, police chief of Patnongon, said at least 19 out of the 40 passengers were injured.
They were rushed to the hospital in San Jose town after they sustained fractures and contusions.
The Patnongon Police Station is investigating the accident to determine its cause and also the liability of the bus driver identified as Joselito Forencendia, 42, of Guimbal, Iloilo.
Meanwhile, passenger Jimmy Calantas, 39, who suffered spine injuries was brought to a hospital in Iloilo City.*JPR with reports from PNA
