PRO 6 keeps watch on cops protecting drug operations
Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr., director of Police Regional Office 6, said yesterday his office continues to monitor the policemen believed to be involved in the drug protection racket.
He said the PRO 6 is still gathering evidence so they could file charges against these policemen, whose names and profiles he refused to divulge.
Querol said that before the police can eradicate the illegal drug menace, they should first clean their own backyard.
“But we need witnesses and evidence,” he said, acknowledging that witnesses are hesitant to come out or report policemen who are into the illegal drug protection.
Querol, however, assured the public that the PRO6 is monitoring these policemen closely.
“We will relieve them from their posts, so as not to give them opportunity to link with drug dealers,” he said.
Moreover, Querol said he is encouraged over the development in Brgy. Bakhaw, Mandurriao district, one of Iloilo City’s drug havens, after the creation of Task Force Bakhaw which is initiating community-related activities as part of its strategies to curb the illegal drug activities in the area.
These include social investigation on households; recruitment of at least 300 task force civilian volunteers; holding of the first barangay assembly/rally /symposium on anti-illegal drugs; and the conduct of training-seminars for barangay tanods and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams.*JPR
