DepEd discourages schools from holding costly parties
The Department of Education in Iloilo City has reminded schools against holding extravagant Christmas parties.
Schools Division Superintendent Raymundo Lapating said teachers should refrain from collecting big amount of money from students for parties in venues outside the school.
Lapating said parties in schools should be very simple and inexpensive because Christmas parties are not mandatory for students.
“It should be regulated and agreed by everybody,” he said.
Parties Outside School
Lapating said the DepEd allows parties outside the school premises, however, it should be done during weekends or holidays and not during school days.
He added that schools-teachers in-charge of the parties should secure permit from the schools superintendent.
Lapating said that whatever party hosted by teachers beyond DepEd requirement should have everybody’s agreement and there should be an internal arrangement to avoid complaints.
“The DepEd has nothing against their internal arrangement but if we know that there are violations, we will conduct an investigation,” he said.
School holidays for Christmas will start on December 17 onwards, and classes will resume on January 3.*
