Power disruptions expected while plant on test–PEDC
As it started operating the first unit of its coal-fired power plant in Iloilo City to full capacity Friday, the Panay Energy Development Corp., a subsidiary of Global Business Power Corp., said consumers may experience power disruptions while the plant is “still on test and commissioning.”
The PEDC said in a press statement that should technical glitches occur, PEDC technical personnel will work on restoring power supply in 30 to 40 minutes.
The Unit 1 of PEDC’s coal-fired power plant started to operate on November 17 with a capacity of 21-megawatts, and has since then provided power supply to Panay Electric Company Inc., “which resulted in the significant improvement of power supply reliability in the city,” the company said.
At present, PEDC’s Unit 1 is generating 36 megawatts, 28 megawatts of which are supplied to PECO.
The insufficient power supply in PECO’s franchise area was addressed with the initial loading of the coal plant, it said.
“However, since the plant is still on reliability run, some technical adjustments were felt in the city with the occurrences of power disruption,” the PEDC added.
It said, however, that the last technical glitch took place on November 30 yet.*
