Soldiers deployed to aid flood victims in Capiz
The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division has mobilized the Armed Forces of the Philippines disaster response teams to assist stranded commuters and residents in the flood-hit villages of Capiz province following heavy rains from Wednesday until Friday last week.
Hundreds of families left their homes and several commuters were marooned in at least knee-high waters after a 12-hour rain that caused flooding in several areas, particularly the towns Mambusao, Dao, Curtero and Sigma.
Reports from the 3rd ID show that severely-affected by floods are the barangays of Baluman, Duyoc, Lacaron, Matagnop and Daplas in Dao town; Caidquid and Tumalalod in Mambusao; Nagba and Malagab-i in Cuartero; and 15 barangays in Sigma.
After the continuous rain, several roads were rendered impassable like the Jamindan- Mambusao Road in barangays Caidquid and Tumalalod, Mambusao; Sigma-Mambusao Road in Tawog, Sigma and Tugas, Mambusao; and the Dao-Panit-an Road in Duyoc and Balucuan, Dao.
Several passenger vehicles bound for Manila were also stranded.
Members of the 61st Infantry Battalion were sent to Sigma and Mambusao roads and assisted commuters and stranded vehicles; the 301st Infantry Brigade, to Dao and Sigma area; and the 3rd ID, to Mambusao, particularly in barangays Tumalalod and Caidquid
First Lt. Mark Andrew Posadas, spokesman of 3rd ID, said the disaster response teams assisted motorists and stranded commuters by providing transportation assistance to more than 300 people.
They also evacuated four families near riverbanks.*
