State of calamity recommended for 22 flooded villages in Roxas
Roxas City Social Welfare and Development Officer Lorelie Suelo has recommended the declaration of state of calamity in 22 flooded villages in their city.
Most of these villages are located in coastal and fishpond areas and in agricultural lands.
Suelo urged the city government to buy 30 additional sacks of rice, 30 cartoons of noodles and 20 cartoons of sardines for distribution to the affected families.
These families are presently housed in evacuation centers of different villages.
The Roxas CSWDO had earlier distributed 20 sacks of rice, 10 boxes of sardines, and 30 boxes of noodles to 2,710 affected families there.
Based on the monitoring report of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) in Capiz, the number of families in various evacuation centers have already decreased.
In Pontevedra town, only 75 of the 155 displaced families have remained in evacuation centers.
At the height of flooding in Capiz last week, more than a thousand people evacuated to different shelters.
Latest PDRRMC data show there are already 138 flashflood-affected villages in Capiz.
The most affected municipalities are Panit-an and Dao with 20 villages each; Pan-ay, 18; Sigma and Mambusao, 15 each; Pontevedra, eight; Maayon and Cuartero, seven each; Jamindan, six; Sapian, five; Ivisan, four; Dumarao, three; and Tapaz, two villages.
PDRRMC also reported that the flooding displaced 7,541 families involving 38,173 individuals.
Flooding occurred as heavy rains during the past days hit Capiz and its capital Roxas City, leaving three people dead and injuring five others.
