‘Double-dead’ meat monitoring up
The Iloilo City Government is conducting massive inspections of pork meat sold in public markets to preempt the entry of “double-dead” meat locally known as “botcha” during the Christmas holidays.
Councilor Rodel Agado, chairman of the committee on public markets and slaughterhouse, said they have inspected all the public markets in the city and have
not found “double-dead” meat so far.
Agado said they are also inspecting pork meat that have not passed through the slaughterhouse for inspection.
He said they will impound illegal pork meat to teach vendors a lesson.
House inspectors mark the pork meat that have passed the inspection. Those without marks are considered illegal meat.
“We guarantee the freshness and quality of pork meat that has passed the slaughterhouse standard,” he said.
“Double-dead” meat looks grayish or has a pale color with foul odor. It is sold in unusually low price.
Agado urged the public not to buy “double-dead” meat for their own safety.*
