BSP: New bank notes to circulate next month
Bangko Sentral Deputy Director Job Nepomuceno said the new generation bank notes will be in circulation in Region 6 starting January next year.
Nepomuceno said in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency, the shipment will come by that time, as the BSP has just launched the new bank notes last week.
“We only have now the old notes, the P20-bills, but signed by President Aquino,” he said.
Nepomuceno said BSP will also conduct a roadshow in Western Visayas to launch the new bank notes.
In a Malacañang dispatch, BSP Governor Amado Tetangco said the launching of the new generation bank notes comes at an auspicious time as 2011 marks the 150th year of national hero Jose Rizal, as well as the 25th anniversary of People Power Revolution.
He said the new banknotes took three years to complete, from conceptualization to actual printing, supported by those who shared vision of change for the currency.
Nepomuceno said the circulation of the new bank notes will counteract a lot of fake money circulating especially this season, as the former are very difficult to counterfeit.*PIA6
