Dinagyang organizers to give out close to P800,000 in cash prizes
More prizes are up for grabs in the various competitions of the 2011 Dinagyang Festival set from January 21 to 23.
The Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) has increased the prizes for the Ati-Ati competition which will be participated by 15 tribes and the Kasadyahan contest, by 10 competing groups.
Robert Alor, chairman of the Ati competition, said that in 2011 the grand champion will already receive P150,000.
The first runner-up will get P80,000; second runner-up, P60,000; third runner-up, P30, 000; and fourth runner-up, P25,000.
Meanwhile, the champion for the Kasadyahan contest will receive P120, 000 while the first to fourth runner-up will bring home P60, 000; P45, 000; P35, 000 and P25, 000 respectively.
A cash prize of P10, 000 will be given for every minor award in the Ati and Kasadyahan contests, except for the “best choreographer,” who will bring home P5,000.
There will also be cash prizes for winners of the drum and lyre competition on January 21, which will kick off the three-day highlights of the festival.
Meanwhile, Alor said yesterday’s Pamukaw activity served as preview of what the public may see during the January 23 Ati competition.
The Pamukaw, organized by the Association of Tribes in Iloilo, aims to raise public awareness about the forthcoming Dinagyang event.*PNA
