Iloilo City, 4 towns win local governance awards
Iloilo City and four towns in Iloilo province were among the recipients of the 2010 Regional Search for Excellence in Local Governance (EXCELL) Award given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 6 during the awarding rites in Bacolod City Monday.
Iloilo City won the special award for Excellence in Administrative Governance for the city category.
Meanwhile, Miagao town garnered two special awards for Excellence in Social Services and Excellence in Economic Development, among first to third class municipalities.
Its neighboring town of Guimbal also brought home two special awards, for Excellence in Economic Development and Excellence in Environmental Management in the fourth to sixth class municipalities category.
The major award for Best Performing First to Third Class Municipality went to Oton while the recognition for Best Performing Fourth to Sixth Class Municipality was given to Anilao.
Oton also won a special award for Excellence in Local Legislation.
Anilao got three special awards for Excellence in Local Legislation, Administrative Governance, and Social Services.
The major awardees received P50,000 each while the special awardees, P10,000 each.
“This is a good sign that local governments are learning to maximize their fullest potentials in order to be of better service their constituents,” said
Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo, who personally recognized the awardees.
The EXCELL Awards is a project of DILG Region 6 which recognizes the best managed local governments in the region that demonstrate best practices, achievements and innovations in governance, administration, social services, economic development, environmental management and local legislation.
The program also aims to advocate for transparency and accountability in governance, positively reinforce good performers, popularize replicable best practices and identify possible interventions to improve the local government unit performance.*NLG
