Mabilog sees better economy, lower crime next year
Iloilo City Jed Patrick Mabilog said Ilonggos can look forward to a more exciting year ahead as bigger opportunities are expected for the city.
Mabilog said an improved economy is seen in 2011 with the continuing influx of business process outsourcing companies in the city.
Iloilo City is the next viable option to sites like Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao, he said.
An aggressive campaign to attract call center investors has been done, including the establishment of infrastructure support and the provision of stable power supply.
At present, Iloilo City is host to seven call centers, including four business process outsourcing companies and one medical transcription services firm.
Mabilog said Iloilo’s readiness to attract more investors will be improved by the decreasing crime incidence.
There has been a great improvement as far as peace and order situation in the city is concerned, he said.
More BPO Firms
Mabilog said the establishment of more business processing and outsourcing infrastructures will help improve the local economy next year.
He said he wants the city to focus on improving its infrastructure facilities, particularly for the BPO industry.
The industry will definitely grow and Iloilo City must be able to keep up with the trend, the mayor said.
He added that since the Philippines has already surpassed India as the top BPO center in the world, it is high time that the city enhances its BPO infrastructures to attract more investors.
Iloilo City, which has around 20,000 graduates every year, makes up a large bulk of workforce in various BPO companies.
He said that Iloilo City should make sure that these graduates could find decent jobs, and one way is through the BPO industry.
The mayor said the influx of BPO companies in the city will definitely bring in more investments, livelihood and economic activity.*PNA
