Teener gunned down in Roxas
ROXAS CITY – A 14-year-old boy was gunned down at around 5:20 a.m. yesterday along Hughes St. here on his way home from dawn mass.
The victim, Charles Jimbo Barcenas of Dayao village, sustained a lone gun shot wound.
He was rushed to Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead.
The suspect, Archie Aranza, 21 of San Juan, Baybay, surrendered several hours after the incident through a witness who positively identified him.
Senior Supt. Khasmir Disomangcop, city police chief, told The News Today the victim was a gang member, and his death was a result of a gang war.
He urged parents not to allow their children to go out especially at night to avoid getting involved in untoward incidents.
Disomangcop said that despite their visibility operations during the dawn masses, the suspect was able to commit the crime in an area where no policeman was assigned.
He vowed to strengthen the police visibility in the city by doubling the number of policemen assigned at the Metropolitan Cathedral – from seven to 14.
The same number will also be deployed at the Mount Carmel Church.
Disomangcop said mobile policemen will augment the personnel assigned in churches.*
