‘2010 great year for business in Iloilo’
The Department of Trade and Industry-Iloilo said that 2010 was a business-friendly year for the province.
DTI Provincial Director Wilhelm Malones said that the entire province was able to create a good business environment for its potential investors and new players, especially the small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
He said this year has also been good for the business processing and outsourcing (BPO) industry especially that more infrastructures are being constructed to accommodate this growing business.
The DTI-Iloilo said it has seen the progress in the bamboo industry and those involving aquamarine products and processed food products, and the health and wellness sector, including spas, fitness gym and beauty clinics.
Malones said the DTI-Iloilo was able to meet their objectives for the year, which is to support more SMEs in the local government units (LGUs). This includes improving its financing and loans program and assistance on product development, marketing, packaging and labeling of various products of the SMEs.
DTI also said the consumer welfare desk has been a great help, as business establishments have been very cooperative. Also, based on monitoring, prices have been stable and within the range.
Malones said faster business registration in several key municipalities in the province created more livelihood opportunities.
He added that LGUs should focus on improving their business infrastructures now that investors have noted of the conducive business environment in Iloilo.*PNA
