Holiday jail break alert up
All jail guards of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 6 will skip the holidays to discourage possible escape of inmates during the Christmas festivities.
Chief Insp. Gilbert Peremne of the BJMP 6 Regional Investigation and Prosecution Division said that in previous years, most of the jail breaks happened during Christmas holidays.
“That’s why our jail guards were ordered to strictly monitor and regularly conduct head count of all the inmates,” he said.
Peremne added that jail guards are not also allowed to drink intoxicated liquor and fire their guns in welcoming Christmas Day and New Year.
“Those found violating our rules will be subjected to investigation and filing of charges,” he said.
Peremne also said there is no need for them to seal the muzzles of their personnel’s firearms.
“We trust our personnel,” he said.
Meanwhile, 20 new jail guards have been assigned to the Iloilo City District Jail in Brgy. Ungka, Jaro, Iloilo City.
The new jailers replaced the 16 jailguards who were relieved following the discovery of illegal drugs inside the BJMP compound.*MGC/JPR
