9 nabbed in City Proper drug den
Nine persons, including four minors, were arrested following a raid in another suspected drug den in Iloilo City over the weekend.
Among those arrested was Edgardo Caniliza, owner of the drug den in Brgy. Tanza-Esperanza, City Proper district.
Police also arrested Anthony Labordo of Brgy. Bacolod, Miag-ao; Leogan Salvador of Brgy. Habog-Habog, Molo, Iloilo City; Kristine Ganancial of Brgy. Dolores, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras; and Rensor Zabala, of Zone 3, Bo. Obrero, Iloilo City.
The four minors are not residents of the area.
The drug den was discovered following the buy-bust operation conducted against Zabala and Jun Dumajod.
As policemen were about to arrest the two, they ran towards Caniliza’s house where a “pot session” was going on.
Policemen caught in the act several persons, including the minors, using “shabu.” They also found several “shabu” paraphernalia.
But Dumajod alias “Tatay Jun” was able to escape.
Meanwhile, Caniliza admitted that his house has been hosting the drug den for six months now.
Drug users pay him P5 to P10 to use the area for their “pot session,” he said.
With no steady job, he said it is a way for him to earn money to support his medical needs.
The asthmatic Caniliza said he also provides for his orphaned grandchildren.
Ganancial, the lone female suspect, denied that she was using drugs during the raid, claiming that she was in the area to get her cellphone.
She admitted though that she is an “occasional shabu user.”
More than a week ago, police operatives also busted a drug den in Brgy. Malipayon, a village adjacent to Tanza-Esperanza.
Late last week, eight persons were also arrested in another drug den in Brgy. Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
All three are considered seriously drug affected villages.*
