Iloilo City cops to tape firearms’ muzzles–OIC
The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has directed its personnel to seal the muzzles of their firearms with a masking tape in rites set today, said officer-in-charge Senior Supt. Marietto Valerio.
Valerio said he will also meet with his subordinates to discuss other measures in line with the holiday celebrations.
The taping of muzzles has been considered by the ICPO in line with the “guidance of Police Regional Office 6 director Chief Supt. Cipriano Querol Jr. that “if possible there will be no illegal discharge of firearms.”
Valerio said personnel who will fire their firearms indiscriminately will be subjected to disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, Valerio said the ICPO down to its local police stations is ready to secure commuters rushing to go home during holiday season.
All station commanders have already been instructed to deploy personnel in places of convergence to ensure security.
“We have enough personnel on standby,” he said.
Valerio said the ICPO is also ready to extend security during the gift-giving activity of the city government expected to accommodate 25,000 to 30,000 people on December 29 at the Freedom Grandstand.
He said they will also deploy barangay peace keeping action teams and traffic enforcers for the duration of the activity.*PNA
