2 cops, 5 civilians hurt in police patrol mishap
ROXAS CITY – Two members of Panay Police Station and five civilians on board a police patrol were injured after their vehicle turned turtle Sunday afternoon in Brgy. Agabalo, Panay.
The victims were identified as Police Officers 1 Beriana and Abagay, the driver.
Others hurt were Ramund Gellen, 38, his wife Leny, 37, and their children Rialyn, 10; Rio, 5; and Rona, 3.
Beriana and Abagay are recuperating at Capiz Emmanuel Hospital while the Gellen family members are admitted at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital.
Investigators said the two policemen were conducting police visibility operations in different barangays of Panay when the Gellen family requested to hitch a ride.
When the vehicle reached Brgy. Agabalo, the driver evaded a rough road but the vehicle slipped and turned turtle.
Meanwhile, the Capiz Provincial Police Office will conduct a separate investigation on reports that the policemen were under the influence of liquor during the incident.*
