2006 Ms. Iloilo Dinagyang: Everything... illuminated!
These days, pageants are so prevalent even in most remote areas that it may manifest itself in a multitude of ways, from the obvious beauty search to the daring body search. Some notions of beauty pageants---the prettiest face and the tallest among the candidates, for example---may seem pretty far out initially, but high-end beauty pageants wield a lot of influence, and many ideas eventually trickle down to the mainstream.
No festival in the country would be complete without a beauty pageant. These days, despite the general state of unrest in our country, pageants give meaning and function to our society. And every Dinagyang season of each year, unusual talents converge to take part in the most spectacular annual beauty event in Iloilo proven for its social and aesthetic appeal. Leave it to Tres Solis, Dado Tan, Edwin Duero, Roni Bolivar, Jun Depalubos, and John Castigador, the driving force that dares to explore the changing perception of beauty (not just another pretty face looking as if they are made from sugar icing, in sparkling dresses and shading themselves from the melting sun under well-decorated parasols).
For decades, as the idea of a beauty pageant spread across Iloilo, the memories of our past Ilongga winners who made it big in the national pageants echoed in the ornate design of the Dinagyang pageant crown.
Even if you don't know how strict the committee is all about the search for beauty contestants, you would figure it out as soon as you see the ladies up close. Beauty and brains are lighting up the 2006 Miss Iloilo Dinagyang roster of candidates with the presence of Joel Lynn Lopez, Jelly Anne de Justo, Christy Joy Camohoy, Donna Dee Taytayon, Regine Zamora, Mary Grace Rafil, Jurymagne Tabusares, Girlie Ocos, Cheche Salcepuedes, Charis Bernas, Janice Boteros, Cherry Mae Barbo, Wienna Legislador, Jane Baruis and Mary Kirnette Gallenero. With their natural beauty and charm, the 2006 candidates are surely set to redefine the concept of a beauty queen.
