Iloilo dads dissatisfied with Petron's handling of oil spill woes
Iloilo officials have now "issued" a "warning" on Petron Philippines in the wake of the oil spill devastation in the province of Guimaras and now Iloilo and Negros Occidental towns too.
Amidst mounting calls of alarm and concerns raised in Northern and Southern Iloilo, the Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) passed a resolution strongly urging Petron officials to do more of its containment and clean-up efforts.
"Dissatisfied," was how Board Member Domingo Oso summed up the SP sentiments on the current work done by Petron. As such, Oso told The News Today (TNT), they want significant results in a week's time or else, the SP will initiate calls to boycott the company, the country's largest oil refiner.
"It is their moral, legal and social responsibility and we need to put more pressure on them because the damage has now reached practically the entire northern Iloilo and threatens more Iloilo towns," Oso added while saying, "we want answers and better actions by the end of this month."
Oso in moving for the passage of the resolution further said that campaign in the potential target-areas of the oil spill have been intensified. The locals, he disclosed, are all ready and willing to take part in the containment efforts even if use of "crude" procedures are employed.
From used clothing to rags, Oso said fishing villages are made aware of the hazard brought by the oil spill.
This as he shared field reports that the town of San Dionisio also have an affected barangay alongside Barotac Viejo. Earlier, four Iloilo towns were validated to have affected coastal barangays namely Ajuy, Concepcion, Dumangas and Barotac Nuevo.
The boycott, TNT also learned from Oso, was also pushed by the Iloilo Mayors' League and Governor Niel Tupas.
