Western Visayas Agriculture Research and Development Consortium (WESVARRDEC) which developed the Darag native chicken bagged top honors in the Ugnay Awards given during the 34th anniversary of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) held at Dusit Hotel Nikko, Makati City, recently.
WESVARRDEC bested two other nominees to get the outstanding regional Research and Development (R & D) consortium in the country.
The award cited WESVARRDEC's exemplary performance in the coordination and management of regional research, development and extension (RDE) programs and activities in Western Visayas.
The two other consortia that vied for the title were Ilocos Agriculture Regional Research and Development Consortium (ILARRDEC) of Region I; and Visayas Consortium for Agriculture Resource Program (VICARP) of Region VIII.
"At long last, the Ugnay Award became ours this year and you can be assured that the consortium spirit and quality service will still continue," said Dr. Rochellir D. Dadivas, chair Regional Research and Development Coordination Committee (RRDCC), WESVARRDEC.
The Darag native chicken advocacy is headed by the WESVARRDEC, in cooperation of its member agencies, under the S&T Anchor Program for Philippine Native Chicken lead by West Visayas State University (WVSU).
