Family driver shot dead in broad daylight killing

Residents in Commission Civil Street, Jaro, Iloilo City were disturbed yesterday by a broad daylight killing that left the family driver of one prominent family here brutally murdered.

Cops, gun-owners warned vs. indiscriminate firing on Christmas, New Year

A stern warning has been issued on all policemen and civilian gun-owners on the firing of service firearms and all other licensed guns, a usual occurrence on Christmas and New Year's eve here.

City's 2007 annual budget up by 59%

The city government will work on a P1.2 billion next year. It is 58.8 percent or P445,156,603 higher than last year's annual budget which is only P756,043,397. A bigger slice of the city's annual budget for 2007 will be taken from the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) and the city's P350 million loan.

In last Wednesday's regular session of the Sangguniang Panglungsod, the city council approved an ordinance appropriating the amount of P1,201,200,000.00 annual budget for 2007.

Treņas questions CPDO's budget proposal

City Mayor Jerry Treñas reportedly got mad on the proposal of City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) headed by Jose Roni Peñalosa asking for a more than P1 million budget for next year.

The International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund (IOPCF) has already released P28.6 million out of the total estimated P106,400,000 compensation claims for the oil spill victims of the island-province of Guimaras. There are already 1,974 fisherfolk claimants who received their compensation claims.
