City's resolution asking for extension of voter's registration useless--Abalos

The resolution approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod asking Comelec chair Benjamin Abalos for extension of the registration of voters who failed to beat the December 31, 2006 deadline is already moot and academic.

6,000 cops to beef up Asean Summit security

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Director General Oscar Calderon assured that the holding of the 12th Association of Southeast Nations (Asean) Summit in Cebu this week will be peaceful.

Calderon, who was here last week for the turn over of command at the Police Office Regional (PRO) 6, said that 6,000 additional police will augment security forces in Region 7. Part of the augmentation comes from PRO 6.

IDFI wants to redeem religious aspect of Dinagyang

The liturgical committee of the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) wants to redeem the religious aspect of this year's Dinagyang festival by mandating the contesting tribes to attend the daily novena masses to be held in San Jose Parish Church, in honor of Señor Sto. Niño. For the past years, the festivity was turned into a commercial and business opportunity rather than a religious festival.

IDFI releases P2.4M to Dinagyang tribes

The Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) has already released P2,490,000 as subsidy to 20 competing tribes in this year's Dinagyang Festival. The competing tribes, however, are still asking for additional subsidy from the foundation. Of the 20 tribes, 13 tribes have received P150,000 each.

Some 5,000 barangay officials from Iloilo's 1,721 barangays are expected as the city hosts on Thursday the 7th Provincial Liga Convention.
