Maybelline Matavia: Commitment beyond experience
* It takes both sunshine and rain to make life's rainbow
Maybelline Matavia
Let us again talk about leaders. This is not going to be boring, at least I hope not.
Maybelline Matavia is the president of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Circle of Officers at St. Paul University Iloilo. She is a fourth year AB Mass Communication student with quite a number of merits, which includes: Academic Awardee for school year 2004 – 2005, a consistent leadership, cultural and service awardee, a former member of the Paulinian Peer Counselor's, a Centennial Scholar, and a ministry choir member for a year.
Let's get a little informal with this one. I just somehow feel cozy being with this girl.
Here is something to our leader, and my good friend too.

Who are your inspirations?
First of all, The Almighty God. Then, my family.
What's a normal day for you?
I won't start with the waking up, for it is quite unstable… hehehe. I go home at 7 pm at the least, with my back aching and feet sore. That doesn't happen everyday, only except if activities get to tiring.
Aside from school, what other things you do?
With WVSU Students
I do voluntary work. I had been a member of the PPCRV during the 2004 and 2007 National Elections. I do my chores at the boardinghouse. You see, my school is away from my home. I study in St. Paul University Iloilo. My hometown is in Surallah, South Cotabato, which is a boat-ride for me. I am residing in a boardinghouse with my younger sister, while our youngest, is studying in Cebu. My older brother is the only one living close to our home. My sister and I are the ones taking care of ourselves. Everything that needs to be done, should be done.
Quite a load for you, school, house, your sister, setting aside your constant pangs of missing home and your deep personal agendas. Yet you still manage to be a leader for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Circle of Officers.

Not just a load for me, I am overloaded. But they .. you voted for me. That is just the way it is. I may not have done my job as expected, but so far so good, I managed, and I am quite happy for that. I am thankful for my team and for you my classmates for the support and everything. I seem to not say no more actually. I am just so grateful.
You are a good singer and dancer ...
Yes, I love to sing and act, most of the time. We sing and act most of the time, right?
Hey… do not start with me. Music please… hehe, anyway… In a lot of ways, you are very witty too.
Yaiks! I guess I am.
But I know you are always thankful.
Yes. I never forget to ask guidance from the One above, and I am always thankful for everything, whether good or bad, that has happened in my life. Everything might not have been great, but what has been done, worked out. So with that, I am happy.
You have other plans for the department?
We just finished a semester. For the next semester, we'll be having activities to entice freshmen to take up courses in the CAS Department. You do know that we have a different ruling in our school.
Freshmen get to choose their courses in the second semester, yes I am aware of that.
You are a good student then.
Yes, I might agree… and yeah, I am. Stop. Care to share your learning experiences?
I have learned to be patient, to offer help even if it is not necessary, and to deal with different and quite difficult 'bosses'. I have failed a lot of times but that taught me to do better next time.
Any favorite quote?
It takes both sunshine and rain to make life's rainbow.
It sure does. A leader needs a team. A team of people working together, friends helping each other, and a family inspiring each other.
