Concert for children's cause
Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently conducted a fund-raising concert for the establishment of a "Bahay Pag-asa," a home for the Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL).
DSWD Regional Director Teresita Rosales said the "Sing for Me: A Call for Peace and Unity" concert was held nationwide.
In Iloilo City the concert culminated yesterday night at the Central Philippine University (CPU) Promenade.
It started last November 5, 6, 7 and 22 at the SM Activity Center.
"The Sing for Me: A Call for Peace and Unity" is a project that aims to create awareness for peace and unity towards giving good future for children.
Rosales said the project was meant first to create awareness but later it was used as fund-raising activity. Portion of the funds will be also allocated for the disadvantaged children.
As of Thursday last week, the department was only able to collect some P12,000. The money were donated by shoppers at SM City during the November concert. Among those participants in the Sing For Me were Sto. Domingo Elementary School, Philippine National Police, Department of Health, DSWD, Jaro Evangelical Church, La Paz Catholic Church, Church of Jesus Christ on the Latter Day Saints and SOS Children's Choir.
Rosales said the proceeds will be pooled at the DSWD national office. The department will check what particular part of the region will avail of the "Bahay Pag-asa."
Rosales said in Western Visayas there is a possibility that the "Bahay Pag-asa" will be put up in Negros Occidental as it had the highest number of CICL cases.
