PNP all set for the holiday season
Senior Supt. Wesley Barayuga, Director of the Iloilo City Police Office, said security preparations for the holiday season are all set in this city.
Police visibility will be increased in key areas in the city especially in places of convergence like malls and other shopping centers to make sure that the public is safe.
"Also, starting December 16, in time for the 'Simbang Gabi' we will be deploying personnel to churches in the city," said Barayuga.
In line with this, he advised the public to keep their valuables such as their cell phones during the mass and to make sure that their houses are safely locked before going to church.
Barayuga, likewise urged the public to be observant like reporting immediately to authorities when they see unattended baggage in public places.
"All our police precincts are on alert and ready to respond to call for public assistance or emergencies. They may also call their complaints at 166 or 337-0400," said Barayuga.
The City Director also warned firearm holders to refrain from using their guns especially during the Christmas and New Year revelries.
"This way we can avoid accidents and casualties that usually mar the celebrations resulting from the illegal discharge of guns," said Barayuga as he noted 2 incidents of stray bullets in the city last year.
Barayuga said the city government has yet to announce the firecracker and pyrotechnics zones in the city where one can sell and buy these products.
Last year, Mayor Jerry Treñas has designated the plazas in every district for selling of the firecrackers and pyrotechnics products. (PIA)
