The 45 village heads of the City Proper district unanimously expressed their support for and endorsement of President Roxas Barangay Chairman Irene Ong as president of the League of Barangays in Iloilo City.
In a show of solidarity, the 45-strong village chiefs of the City Proper district inked a resolution citing Ong's "outstanding leadership qualities that have transformed the association into one cohesive unit."
Ong once served as president of the Association of Barangay Captains at the City Proper district.
They described Ong as "an independent and outspoken leader who can be trusted to place the interest of the Association above all others."
"(Barangay chairman) Irene Ong has consistently shown that she is a reliable leader who can be depended upon for help and assistance even at the personal level; that, in many instances, we have consistently relied on Hon. Irene Ong to fearlessly articulate our needs and present them to the highest officials," the resolution said.
The resolution also urged other village chiefs in the city to "unite behind a true leader, a dependable comrade, and a reliable friend."
Ong was earlier endorsed by Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez, Mayor Jerry Treñas, and Vice Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog.
The election for the League of Barangays here is on December 29. Once elected, the village chief shall represent the organization as an ex-officio member to the Sangguniang Panlungsod. (PNA)
