Garin cautions studes, parents on drug influx in school opening
Board Member Richard Garin (First District, Iloilo) is calling on all students and parents to be aware of the feared influx of illegal drugs come school opening.
With the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) coming out with the initial warning, Garin stressed the importance of “offensives” against illegal drug proliferation.
The PDEA in a media statement made by agency counsel Ronnie Delicana disclosed the expected entry of considerable supply with the increased demand for ‘stocks.’
Of grave concern here is the widened sale of Marijuana, Shabu otherwise known as “poor man’s cocaine” and even the “high-end” Ecstasy pills.
“As we prepare for the safety and security of our students with next month’s school opening, it is very important that we also take concrete measures to protect them from the preys of drug pushers. It is time once again to strengthen our guards as a community as we rally members of our academe, the students themselves, parents and guardians against the menace of illegal drugs. Sadly, the school opening provides them the market anew but let us all be forewarned,” he said.
Garin is chairman of the Committee on Public Order and Safety of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP).
The PDEA in a continuing campaign has designed anti-drug school talks set to start as soon as school begins.
It will have to be school-based, Delicana stressed when reached for interview by Bombo Radyo, if only to deliver the message straight to the students.
Yet with the widened advocacy, Garin reechoed calls for barangay-based efforts particularly since first-hand information on drug personalities emanates here.
“Let us all be aware that once more the threats posed by illegal drug trade is one clear and present danger to our children and the community. We have declared war against illegal drugs then. We are declaring war anew,” Garin ended.
