Bacolod Muslim leader condemns Mindanao bombings
BACOLOD CITY -- Imam Omar Betita, head of the DAR AL-DHIKR Islamic Call and Guidance Center in Bacolod City, condemned the series of bombings in Mindanao that have left scores dead and injured since Sunday.
The Muslim leader said the bombings in Mindanao should be stopped, since most of the victims are innocent civilians.
“We believe that we have nothing to do with the bombings since Muslims are peace loving people,” he added.
While their group denounces the violence, Betita said, that the government should not blame Muslims right away.
Sunday when six people were killed, including a one-year-old boy, while more than 30 others were wounded when a bomb planted by suspected Muslim rebels exploded outside the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cotabato City.
Another six people were killed and more than 40 wounded by twin bomb blasts in Jolo and Iligan City, in what officials described as coordinated attacks by Al Qaeda-linked militants.
Atrocities were not committed by the rebel groups and instead were “self-inflicted by the government” so that Martial Law can be declared and the President could stay in power, Betita doubted.
