Emergency employment for Negros Occidental
A total of 133 workers will be hired for the implementation of the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VI.
If broken down, 105 enumerators or interviewers, 18 encoders and 10 area supervisors will be hired. They will be assigned in Calatrava, Don Salvador Benedicto, Cauayan and Moises Padilla, all in Negros Occidental.
“Since we are closely working with the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office of Negros Occidental to help those affected by Tiempos Muertos, qualified children of sugarworkers will be prioritized as well as displaced OFW workers,” said DSWD Regional Director Teresita S. Rosales who delivered a message during the orientation.
Among those who attended were Vice Governor Emilio Yulo III, Calatrava Vice Mayor Nicolas Camora, Cauayan Mayor John Ray Tabujara, Don Salvador Benedicto Lawrence Marxlen Dela Cruz, Moises Padilla Mayor Francisco Nazareno and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Liane Garcia.
These first four municipalities were prioritized for NHTS-PR because they belong to the municipalities with poverty incidence of below 60 percent but above 50 percent.
The NHTS-PR is a program which has a system for identifying who and where the poor are and generating and establishing a socio-economic database of poor households. It will ensure that the limited resources of the different social protection agencies will reach the poorest of the poor.
“We are optimistic that the result of this assessment through saturation of our municipalities will be a mechanism so that we would be of help to the people,” said Vice Governor Yulo.
At present, NHTS-PR assessment of households was already finished in Laua-an, Valderrama, San Remegio, Bugasong and Barbaza in Antique; and Libacao and Madalag in Aklan Province . There is an ongoing assessment in Iloilo City and Bacolod City . After these areas, municipalities in Iloilo Province and Negros Occidental will also be saturated and will be needing additional workers. (DSWD-6)
