DPWH 6 still on guard against illegal billboards
Public safety comes first especially during rainy season, said Director Rolando Asis as he warned that the Department of Public Works and Highways is always ready to demolish illegally erected billboards.
Director Asis said he already instructed his district engineers region-wide to widen their scope in monitoring the construction of illegal and unsafe billboards not only along the national roads and bridges but also inside public parks.
Only two provinces were mentioned by Asis during the PIA interview that cited Iloilo having two remaining unsafe billboards.
Asis, though without mentioning where in Iloilo, assured that they already have sent a communication to the concerned owner of the billboards.
“Bacolod is cleared of unsafe billboards,” Asis said, “but we do not hold our guards down, we continue to monitor to assure public safety”.
The DPWH 6 director also said that unsafe billboards are those constructed without following the standard specifications as set by the National Building Code’s Implementing Rules and Regulations.
The dismantling of illegal billboards is in compliance with the Administrative Order No. 160 and 160-A of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after the wrath of typhoon “Milenyo” last 2006, which resulted in the damage of property and loss of life due to toppling of giant billboards.(PIA6/T.Villavert)
