‘Pulis Ko, Titser Ko’ starts in 4 schools
The Police Regional Office 6 has started its “Pulis Ko, Titser Ko” program in four public elementary schools across the region Monday.
In its pilot teaching work, the PRO 6 chose the A. Montes Elementary School in Zamora St., City Proper in Iloilo City; Western Visayas Sanitarium Elementary School in Brgy. Bolong Oeste, Sta. Barbara, Iloilo; Pres. Roxas Memorial School-North in Roxas City, Capiz; and Talisay Elementray School in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
After these schools, the program will soon start simultaneously in 133 municipalities in the region, and 16 districts of Iloilo and Bacolod cities.
In Iloilo City, Chief Supt. Samuel Pagdilao Jr., police regional director, and Department of Education 6 Regional Director Mildred Garay attended Monday’s program launching.
“We have seen how crimes have encroached in schools so we want to supplement what the schools are teaching so that our children will be molded into becoming ideal citizens in the future,” Pagdilao said.
Garay, for her part, lauded the project initiated by Pagdilao.
Teachers and even pupils welcomed the variation in their classes, she said.
The “Pulis Ko, Titser Ko” program is a strategic school-based crime awareness project of Philippine National Police and DepEd in Region 6 wherein policemen from different police units of PRO6 who were former teachers or Education graduates will teach 20- to 30-minute lectures to Grade 4 pupils in selected public elementary schools.
The subjects will be on crime prevention awareness and child safety, welfare and development, along with the values of patriotism, nationalism, among others.
The program also aims to enhance the moral foundation of young students and strengthen their resistance to crime so that they will become productive, responsible, and law-abiding citizens in the future.
Part of the agreement between the PRO6 and DepEd 6 states that the two agencies will collaborate in formulating a Grade 4 curriculum and teaching methodology to be used in the program implementation.*
