Brgy council OK's creation of police task force
The barangay council of Tanza-Esperanza has already passed a resolution approving the establishment of a police task force to curb illegal drug trade in their area.
Barangay Capt. Carlos Orada said they have approved a resolution last week to pave way for the entry of the task force. Earlier, two of their barangay kagawads refused to approve the resolution. He named one of them as Barangay Kagawad Adolfo Perez.
Orada said Perez argued that the presence of a task force in their area will create a bad image on their barangay and even on the residents who are looking for jobs. For so long, Tanza-Esperanza has been in the police watchlist because of the illegal drug problem in the barangay.
Later, Orada said, the two barangay kagawads also approved the resolution after realizing the need of the police task force.
Orada said he should not be blamed for the existence of drug pushers and users in their area. He claimed he has done his part.
Orada said there are policemen detailed in his barangay but have done nothing to address the illegal drugs problem and even waited for the problem to become bigger.
However, Orada maintained that ridding their barangay of illegal drugs not only needs the help of the community but also of the government.
We need not only the police presence but also of livelihood to help the residents, he said.
The creation of the task force in Tanza-Esperanza was stalled after the supposed police team to be assigned thereat were temporarily deployed in Bacolod City for the Southeast Asian Games.
