Hubby runs amok, kills wife then self
A 32 year-old farmer believed to have long been suffering from mental illness ran amuck, killing his 25 year-old wife using a working bolo then turning the weapon on himself.
With hack wounds on her head, neck, stomach and arms, shocked family members and neighbors failed to help Elsie Cabaya as she screamed for minutes during the attack. Her assailant, her husband of over six years Rolando Cabaya was said to have spent three nights without sleep prior to the gruesome killing.
The incident occurred in the family home in Barangay Igtuble, Tubungan, Iloilo, some twelve kilometers off the town proper.
Barangay officials alerted police with a team immediately sent to respond.
In an interview, SPO4 Janelo Gepana told The News Today that efforts to help the Cabaya couple failed given the enormous blood loss. Yet it was the Tubungan police who rushed the duo to the hospital while operatives worked on securing the crime scene and recovered the weapon used in the killing.
Rolando hacked himself twice, severing his left arm and left leg. The couple's children aged 5, 2 and 1 respectively were spared from the attack. They are now in the custody of family members.
