Store guard in 'hot water' over shotgun fiasco
Iloilo City -- Three customers of a local department store remain in hospital confinement following Wednesday's accidental firing while inside store premises. The incident blamed on store security guard Marvin Niel Bolivar occurred seconds after Bolivar was seen playing with his service firearm with the unsuspecting victims close by.
Witnesses rushed to the rescue of the trio as police were alerted and later put the store guard into custody. This, as panic temporarily set in throughout the crime scene, the Unitop General Merchandising along Ledesma Street, Iloilo City.
In a report, The News Today gathered that the victims were Theresa Dumlao of Jaro who sustained gunshot wounds in the leg, Riza Requeron of Escalante Negros Occidental and Flora Mae Barrios who suffered leg injuries as well.
As if Bolivar's woes are not enough, responding policemen discovered an expired security detail order. As such, Police Supt. Tomas Navarro, chief of the Firearms Explosives Security Agency (FESAGS) said that an investigation will be conducted that will further ascertain said guard's additional liabilities.
Blatant violations were also committed by Bolivar, Supt. Navarro said in a radio interview given the surrounding events that led to the incident. Clearly, the FESAGS chief added, Bolivar should not have positioned himself where civilians will be in harm's way with a loaded shotgun.
