Barangay-based cha-cha info campaign up
Iloilo City -- The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) will tap the city's 180 barangay captains to lead the information campaign designed to inform the citizenry on the significance of the proposed amendments to the 1987 Philippine Constitution.
LCP president Mayor Jerry Treņas said the barangay-based information dissemination campaign is part of the plan designed by the LCP in order to push for a charter change particularly the need to shift from bicameral to unicameral form of government. The discussion on charter change gives the Filipinos an opportunity to map and set the direction they want the country to thread in.
Treņas said the information dissemination campaign will start as soon as possible. The information campaign to change the form of government from the presidential to parliamentary was approved in the recent meeting of the LCP.
Treņas added that they will also reach out to the different sectors in the society to enlighten the people on the importance of changing the Philippine Constitution. The chief executive believed the amendments in the fundamental laws will lead to development in the countryside.
He added the advocacy on charter change through people's initiative is a better way to inform the people without the government spending much on the campaign. The people's initiative does not need enough funds compared to the holding of a constitutional convention, he said.
