1,200 young legislators to join 15th NMYL national congress
Iloilo City -- Some 1,200 delegates are expected to join in the three-day 15th National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) national congress to be held in Boracay, Island, Malay, Aklan.
Councilor Julienne Baronda said the national congress will be on March 29-31, 2006. The delegates will come from the different parts of the country. The delegates will include provincial vice-governors, city and municipal vice-mayors, provincial board members, city and municipal councilors, SK and League of Barangays Federation presidents who were 35 years old and below at the time of their election in office. This year's NMYL theme is “Kabataang Mambabatas: Susi sa Masiglang Bukas.”
Baronda, who is the NMYL's executive vice president said there are several issues which will be tackled during the three days national congress. Among the topics which to be discussed are the advocacy commission on charter change, promoting child-friendly local governance and legislation, children in conflict with the law (Implications of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 and politics and governance (The Way Kurat Experience). There will also be a forum with the Kampeon ng Kabataan awardees.
The past presidents of the NMYL will also grace the occasion. Senate Majority Leader Francis Pangilinan, Bulacan Governor Josefina De la Cruz, Marikina Representative Del De Guzman and Bohol Representative Edgar Chatto will give inspirational messages to the participants.
