PPO conducts peer counseling training for youth
In order to develop a municipal/district-based core team of peer counselors, the Provincial Population Office (PPO) headed by Mr. Godofredo Cubil conducted a lately a 5-day training on Presentation & Peer Helping Skills for Adolescent Health and Youth Development Program (AHYDP) youth core group of Iloilo province at Sports Pension, Magsaysay, Village La Paz, Iloilo City.
Cubil said this youth will assist in attaining AHYDP objective to promote and improve the total well-being of young people aging 10-24 years old and reduce the incidence of reproductive health problems.
He said further the training, which incurred technical assistance from the Commission on Population Regional Office VI, aimed to enhance knowledge of youth to AHYDP and develop competencies in assisting peers to effectively prepare and cope with the challenges and difficulties of adolescence; discuss the threats and challenges confronting the adolescents; develop basic skills, competencies on peers helping/counseling and presentation; demonstrate increased appreciation and commitment towards the goals and vision of the AHYDP; and entrance existing plans.
This was participated in by youth participants coming from 10 municipalities of Districts III, IV and V.
Cubil added this training is the first of the four batches of Peer Helping Training to be conducted by PPO this year with grant from the British Embassy.
He said last year, his office trained 40 peer helpers/counselors with funding from the Iloilo Provincial Government and Alliance of Northern Iloilo for Health and Development (ANIHEAD).
