Calinog wins nutrition award anew
The municipality of Calinog will again represent the province of Iloilo in the regional search for the Outstanding Nutrition Program Implementor for this year 2006.
Calinog, 59.3 kms. away from Iloilo City, bested 20 other local government units in the province that participated in the said contest this year.
Next in rank to Calinog, is the municipality of New Lucena, second, Concepcion, third, Sta. Barbara, fourth and Janiuay, fifth.
On the other hand, the Barangay Nutrition Council (BNC) of Brgy. Bolalacao, New Lucena was adjudged as outstanding BNC this year besting 23 others in the province.
Aside from Brgy. Bolalacao, New Lucena the other top four BNC awardees are: Brgy. Lanag, Sta. Barbara, second; Brgys. Simsiman and Camalongo, Calinog and Bitaog-Gaja, New Lucena, third; Brgy. Daga, Sta. Barbara, fourth; and Brgy. Banban Grande, Calinog, fifth.
Named as 2006 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar is Estelita Masa of Brgy. Buyuan, Tigbauan. The other awardees are: Crispina Soterno of Brgy. Daga, Sta. Barbara, second and Ana Paderes of Brgy. Jamul-awon, Concepcion came in third.
Iloilo Provincial Nutrition Program Coordinator Rosarie San Luis said the awardees will receive their certificates of recognition and cash awards during the culmination activity of the July Nutrition Month celebration of the province.
The annual search is spearheaded by the provincial government through its Provincial Nutrition Technical Working Group (PNTWG) composed of representatives from various concerned agencies. The PNTWG chaired by Mr. Elias Sandig of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) served as evaluators of the contest.
San Luis said the primary objective of this activity is to ensure that local government units are implementing their nutrition program amongst its priority programs and services.
